Because of the recent storms and severe weather we have experienced here in Jefferson County I would like the citizens to be aware of roofing scams.   We have had reports of possible roofing scams in the area.   Please be aware that roofing companies are required to be registered in this state to do business as a roofing company.  You can ask about this with anyone or company who you contact for roofing services.   If someone or a company contacts you and tries to say you have damage and need a new roof,  I would contact your home owners insurance agent before signing anything.   Most roofing companies do not contact you first.   They wait for you to call them.     Please be vigilant against this type of scam.  Scam artists like to take advantage of people, especially the elderly.   If you think you have been contacted by a scam roofing company please call and report it.
